Shinagawa station
After very little sleep we were wide awake at 0300 so we decided to go exploring. Right across the street was the Shinagawa Train Station.
After stopping at the 24 hour convenience store just outside the station, for our first exposure to Japanese junk food, we decided to walk around and see how the trains worked here in Japan. While looking around the station we noticed that there are no trash cans. Interestingly enough there is almost no trash in Japan that we noticed in our travels. We continued to search for trash cans for about 30 minutes until we found a security guard. When we asked the guard about a trash can he also seemed surprised that there were almost none to be found. Later on we figured out that where there are vending machines there are typically recycling/trash cans next to or behind them. We are told that in Japan you are expected to carry your trash home with you and dispose of it there.
