Comic Con

Comic Con 2016, the people, the costumes, the parties!

Comic Con is quite possibly the biggest convention that San Diego hosts.  There are exhibits from almost every Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Fiction movie or TV series you can think of.  The people that attend go to great lengths to craft some astonishingly accurate and many times revealing costumes.

As with most Comic Con goers a costume is a pretty important component if not the most important.  Sharon and I are lucky to have a friend that is a whiz with making costumes and she really came through for this weekend.  Thus resulting in the all important fitting.

Once the final adjustments were made to Sharon’s costume we then headed out to the Gas Lamp district in downtown San Diego to check out the Comic Con festivities and meet up with with the Wastelanders for a photo shoot.

As we made our way down to the Gas Lamp sign to meet up with the Wastelanders crew to take pictures there was no shortage of people milling around in costumes.  I was starting to wonder if we’d actually be able to pick the group out of the crowd as there were so many people that you could be 5 feet from someone and never notice them.

Then again there really wasn’t any other people dressed quite like the Wastelanders in their post apocalyptic garb.

While the tribe is a little rough around the edges they are a really great group of guys and girls to hang out with.  We even had the local SDPD guys chatting with us and taking a few pics.  I will say that the SDPD guys do a really great job and are very friendly and personable.

While we were taking pictures and chatting with the SDPD guys and girls there was much chatting and socialization amongst the friends that do not get to see each other all that often.  It’s good to see other Wastelanders throughout the year.  Some came in from as far away as New Jersey.

But no Wasteland event technically exists without Lord Humongous!

Aside from the Wastelanders there is just an amazing amount of things to see around all of Gas Lamp at Comic Con.  Here are some of the other attractions.

After all the walking around and meeting people it’s amazing how hungry you will get so we decided to stop for a quick break and grab something to eat and a drink or 2.

While there we also noticed that the ride service Uber had quite a presence with the addition of the Mr. Robot ride vans.  These were pretty cool, you got a ride back to a central parking lot while watching a VR video clip from the hit show Mr. Robot.  We thing there may’ve been a spoiler in the video that you could only see at Comic Con this year.

One stop that we just had to make was the Star Trek art exhibit that was on display at a gallery downtown at Comic Con.  The art presented was really great as there were several artists that truly have a God given talent as you can see in the amazing work they are able to create.

After all the excitement of the day we were pretty worn out.  But there was still the Wastelanders roof top party that we just had to go to.  This was a great experience to get to see many friends that we do not often get to see.  And some close friends that we don’t see enough.  The view around sunset was just amazing from this downtown location.

As the sun sat slowly in the west behind the skyscrapers in the not so far distance the Wastelanders were still catching up on old times as well as the new time to come.

There was no better place to have a get together for the Wastelanders than a downtown roof top  with the grill in full production and refreshments a plenty as well.  It was a great weekend with many great friends old and new.  One thing is for sure, we are all looking forward to this year at Wasteland Weekend.
